Crabtree! Finally!

Thrusting into the 49ers organization.

Thrusting into the 49ers organization.

So, yesterday we heard the news that 49ers first round draft pick Michael Crabtree finally signed with the team. Yes, I haven’t forgotten the arrogance that he showed by holding out for all of training camp, all of pre-season and four games of the regular season. I doubt that’ll ever leave his reputation, and we’ll continue to think he’s just another diva WR until he proves otherwise. But that doesn’t mean I can’t be happy that he’s on the 49ers.

The truth is that the 49ers only have two receivers worth mentioning at the moment: Josh Morgan and Vernon Davis. Issac Bruce has lost it, and nobody else on the team has stepped up. The 49ers offense is in the bottom 10 of the league. I believe that Crabtree can make an impact this season. Could you play him against the Falcons? Yes, but that would be pretty stupid. I believe that a more realistic goal would be the week 7 match-up against the Texans. I expect to not only see him on the field then, but for Shaun Hill to throw at least 5 passes his way.

How will his stats fare at the end of the season? Well, after the draft, I believed he’d go for 900 yards and 5 TDs. That was a very liberal estimate, and that was before I knew any of these contract disputes. Now? Well, I say aim for 400 yards and 2 TDs. Hardly Rookie of the Year numbers, but after missing 2 significant months of football, they’re still quite impressive.

  1. It sounds like they’re going to work him in slow… I doubt he’ll produce much until week 10 or so, because he has a lot of catching up to do learning everything. Gotta love Hammer if he really had any influence over it! check out our blog http://doin-work.com
